Title : KPOP B!TCH
*

Throughout her eight year plus soloist career, navigating through garage pop and alternative R&B releases like Muah, The Deep has found her footing. Her creative vision has been evermore present, though it shines through in her debut album KPOP B!TCH. With a roster of notable producers like kimj, Weissen, Frost Children and Dorian Electra (who also remixed f5ve's UFO), the singer-songwriter bursts with potential.

“[But] K-pop is very polished, it’s perfectionism in a way, and I’m very DIY. I design a lot of my stuff, come up with all of my creative directions, do a lot of mixing, and edit and shoot my videos. Honestly, the word ‘bitch’ fits my personality so well, so I decided to call it KPOP B!TCH to make it easier for people to understand my character.” says The Deep, via a DAZED interview.

Opener BEEP BEEP begins with an electro-pop infused bang, delivering a bouncy, unrelenting beat to rock your face off. Producer Weissen gives us track 8, Birthday, which feels like a postlude to Make Up, her 2025 single. Both share the similarity of a light, glittery production, akin to the soft sparkling of champagne. Deep's saccharine chirp of 'I love you' convey as a message to self.

The crunchy synths in I Hate Silence channel the 2000s energy of KPOP B!TCH - rainbow leopard print, neon-pink trucker caps, colourful spiked bracelets - a complete 180° from her previous EP Electric Pink. She literally says 'we took over this club, yeah we swagged out'. Though the production pre-chorus has this odd warbling sound, Deep's vocals swoop in and let the pieces fall together perfectly. The beat switches are bizarre and almost experimental.
SOLO is about deep's pioneering steps in her soloist career, working alone and without a label. "I was sometimes bullied and I also experienced dating violence at a very young age. Those past experiences made me want to feel free. By focusing sincerely on what I truly wanted to do, I think I eventually found the sound I have now." voices Deep. This song exudes confidence in oneself, assurance, and cuntiness. That means being independent of others judgement, knowing what you want and being your own fan. On a technical level, SOLO takes late-2000s Britney and rolls with it, which works perfectly. Breakup-song Who lets us take a breather and slowly brings the album to a close, followed by the final track EDM - creatively rebranded as Everyone Deserves a Moment. The synths in EDM allow Deeps voice to soar through the glitchy chorus.

Each track in KPOP B!TCH stands out and erupts with promising composition - Deep's artistic vision shines not only through her neon styling and 2000s imagery, but also her songs and writing. "Overall, I always want my music to give off a positive energy, so even when I don’t intend to, I naturally end up making music that does that."
The mixing is outstanding, thanks to Weissen. It's difficult to point out what's missing. Perhaps the title track KPOP B!TCH is too dissimilar from the others, due to the Frost Children production credit. Otherwise, the album is a self aware, maximalist project, with the influence of late 2000s-early 2010s artists like 3OH!3, Millionaires and Imogen Heap at the helm. It is without a doubt the most engaging release of hers yet.
